Family Fun in Beautiful Bavaria

A holiday home in Bavaria is a great place for families to be together while they decide what to do and see during their vacation in this area in southeastern Germany.

Families can participate in outdoor activities in Bavaria all year long. Swimmers, sunbathers and surfers will enjoy Lake Ammersee in Upper Bavaria. Bayern Park offers activities for the whole family.

Adventurous family members will enjoy riding the roller coaster and taking a rafting trip on the river. Park visitors can take a boat ride on a lake or take a train around the park. The park also has trails for horseback riding. This park in Lower Bavaria is open during the spring and fall.

A winter outing to the Wetterstein Mountains southwest of Munich gives visitors a chance to go skiing and tobogganing. Zugspitze is the highest peak in these mountains, and visitors can see a panoramic view of four countries from the top of Zugspitze. This peak is reached by a cable car.

Travelers who want to see the German countryside under a blanket of snow can take a sleigh ride near the town of Oberammergau. Oberammergau also offers things to do during warm weather. The area has a number of trails for cyclists and hikers.

Travelers can combine hiking, a trip to the beach and a museum visit during warm weather at Dreiburgensee Lake. There are hiking trails around the lake, and the lakeshore has a sandy beach. The Bavarian Forest Museum by the lake has more than 100 historic buildings. Some of these buildings date back to the late 16th century. Children will enjoy the playground on the property.

The trails in the Spirit Gorge near the town of Mittenwald were planned to make it easy for children to hike through the gorge. These trails are surrounded by fences, and hikers can see cliffs and waterfalls from the trails. Visitors can experience a different view of Bavaria's natural beauty when they take a treetop walk through the forest in the Bavarian Forest National Park.

The town of Fussen in southwestern Bavaria is 700 years old. Neuschwanstein Castle near Fussen is often referred to as a fairytale castle. The castle was built in the 19th century, and its walls are decorated with pictures of knights and kings. Curtains and coverings in the castle are made out of silk. Visitors can see a view of mountains from the castle's conservatory.

Children will enjoy wandering through the Fairytale Forest in the city of Munich. Paths through this amusement park are lined with figures and buildings depicting scenes from fairy tales. Hellabrunn Zoo in Munich has more than 400 kinds of animals, pony rides and a petting zoo.

Hiking through a peaceful Bavarian forest, gazing at panoramic mountain views and wandering through a medieval town are some of the ways families can bond during a Bavarian vacation.
