The Balcon de Europa

The Balcon de Europa is situated on a rocky promontory that was once a fortress designed to keep out British pirates in the 9th century. After the fortress was destroyed in the 19th century, King Alfonso XII of Spain visited the area and was so taken by the view that he reportedly named it the "Balcony of Europe." A life-size statue of the king stands near the site today.

The Balcon de Europa is surrounded by cafes, shops, and restaurants, and it's a popular gathering spot for both locals and tourists. It's a great place to relax, people watch, and enjoy the views of the sea. It's particularly beautiful at sunset.

In addition to the stunning views, the Balcon de Europa is often host to a variety of performances and events, including live music and traditional dancing. It's also the focal point for many of the town's festivals and celebrations. So, if you're planning a trip to Nerja, be sure to take some time to visit the Balcon de Europa - it's an experience you won't want to miss.
