Description
Description
Welcome to Victoria Cottages in Bakewell, a Grade II listed property, originally a Mill Workers cottage forming part of a row of cottages to house the workers from Victoria Mill (across the road). As such this traditional, yet updated cottage still retains some 18th century charms. Located within short walking distance of the bustling market town of Bakewell, and set within the Peak District National Park, the open countryside is on your doorstep. Haddon Hall and Chatsworth House are also close by.
The cottage opens from the front door on the main road into a beamed lounge/dining room with a comfortable leather suite and a vintage oak table, complimented by a log effect fire set in an open hearth giving a warm welcome after a day out walking or shopping. There is a large flat screen TV and internet access included during your stay.
The kitchen, with local quarry stone floor, has a gas hob and oven, a dishwasher, fridge/freezer and microwave. Off the kitchen is a utility area with boot rack and clothes racks, as well as washing and drying machines for those longer stays. Up the original and quite steep staircase are two bedrooms and a modern bathroom with a shower above a large bath.
The master bedroom has original 18th century features with a luxurious king-sized bed, ample hanging space in the wardrobes as well as good bedside furniture.
The bright second bedroom has twin beds with bedside furniture.
Accessed from the kitchen are two wonderful “away from it all” terraces, perfect for enjoying your morning coffee or indulging in an alfresco meal, the views out over the surrounding countryside are fabulous. Please note that due to the steep stone steps to the terraces and stairs, the property is not suitable for children or people with reduced mobility.
Dogs - there is no garden area for dogs at the property but a short walk on the lead across the main road leads to a green space by the river, and beyond to open fields.
Known for its famous Bakewell Pudding, you can meander through the town’s quaint streets, where you'll discover delightful shops, traditional tea rooms, and a big choice of restaurants and bars. The regular Monday markets attract many visitors, with additional farmers markets held at weekends at the Bakewell showground, which also hosts many events all year round.
This property provides the perfect base for couples, and friends to explore the charming local area, from the quaint villages and open moors of the Peak District National Park to the majestic Houses. The Spa towns of Buxton and Matlock Bath are both a short drive away.
Off street parking is provided for up to two small/medium sized vehicles adjoining the top terrace of the cottage.
