Holiday home - 12 persons - Rue de la Republic - 24510 - Sainte Alvère

Sainte Alvere is the perfect Dordogne holiday village. It had everything we needed as a large family group and provided great access to sites of interest and activities.The house itself is wonderfully positioned in the heart of the village and is enormous! Parking is tricky in Market day, but otherwise reasonably easy. Th house has however, seen better days. It is poorly equipped, the beds are uncomfortable and made up with scratchy cheap bedding with thin lumpy pillows. The towels left were only ‘hand’ sized in one bedroom with no spares available. The bathrooms function adequately although the shower tray in one is cracked and drains poorly and the sealant has gone around an upstairs bath, so showering in it caused a leak in the bedroom below. These issues were however attended to promptly but I suspect are the ‘tip of the iceberg’. The pool is OK. It has a robot cleaner and a cover, but the decking/cover is cracked and the jacuzzi functions are long gone. The outside space has no shade and some of the chairs are broken. The kitchen has a lot of ‘stuff’ - a lot of it unnecessary/ unusable. Huge cups and tiny glasses with little else in between. There were no basics left, such as salt or pepper, oil or tea/coffee except for a selection of rather mucky leftovers from previous guests. The house is for sale and I suppose our conclusion is that the owners are just waiting to get it off their hands and are doing as little as possible to make do. In conclusion, big thumbs up for Sainte Alvere, but a bit so/so for the house.
