Castro Marim, at the mouth of the Guadiana border river, is located in a rural setting surrounded by fields, pastures, salt pans and salt marshes. The border to Spain is only 6 km away, the beaches at Monte Gordo about 10 km. Also of interest is the 17th-century SÃo SebastiÃo Fort and Castle, which offers panoramic views of the area and is also the site of the annual Medieval Fair.
