Hornvarefabrikken

Danish Craftsmanship with Heritage and Elegance
Hornvarefabrikken in Bøvlingbjerg is Denmark’s only workshop dedicated to the production of handcrafted horn products. Officially founded in 1935, the factory continues a tradition that dates back over 200 years. Today, Hornvarefabrikken is both a living workshop and a modern design brand, where timeless craftsmanship meets contemporary aesthetics.
A Story Rooted in Danish History
The story begins in the early 19th century with Knud Høj from Nees Parish. While held as a prisoner of war in England during the Napoleonic Wars, he learned the craft of making horn spoons. Upon returning to Denmark, he began his own production in the local area – an initiative that inspired others in the region and helped many farming families supplement their income on the harsh Jutland heath.
In 1935, Peder Husted founded Hornvarefabrikken in Bøvlingbjerg. That same year, his work was internationally recognized when he won a silver medal at the World Expo in Brussels.
Since 2008, the business has been owned and run by Sara Brunn Buch and her husband, Peder Frølund Buch. A graduate of the School of Art & Craft in Kerteminde, Sara has expanded the company’s reach while staying true to the original craft and its values.
