Fiskeriets Hus – A Museum and Aquarium by the Fjord

Fiskeriets Hus in Hvide Sande is both a local history museum and an aquarium, featuring freshwater and saltwater species. Here, visitors can explore the story of Holmsland Klit – its past, present, and future.

Opened in 1992, the building itself is part of the experience. Its wooden exterior is inspired by the traditional tool sheds once characteristic of Hvide Sande, while the large glass façade on the southern side offers sweeping views of the harbour entrance and Ringkøbing Fjord.

At Fiskeriets Hus, you can dive deep into the fascinating history of fishing and maritime life along the Danish west coast. The museum tells captivating stories of fjord and deep-sea fishermen, as well as the brave lifeboat crews who risked everything in stormy conditions to save others at sea.

Ships, history, and a captain’s perspective

Highlights of the exhibition include the historic vessel “Thomas”, built in Stadil around 170 years ago, and the ship “Jonna”. Visitors can step aboard, explore the interior, and for a moment imagine themselves as the captain at the helm.

Outside, children will love the large maritime-themed nature playground, while adults can take in the sweeping views of Ringkøbing Fjord.
