Enjoy Amazing Island Experiences
Tenerife, the largest and most populous of the Canary Islands, offers enjoyable and unique holiday experiences for the entire family. Whether you wish to enjoy nature, see historical and cultural sites, or do a bit of shopping, Tenerife offers it all. You will be sure to create treasured memories for you family on your next holiday.
Tenerife offers amazing natural beauty — from beaches to mountains and forests, the landscape is truly varied. One highlight is Mount Teide, the highest point in Spain and a mostly dormant volcano. Mount Teide is not only a national park, but a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Surrounded by a beautiful protected forest, Teide is a must-see.
Beaches and gorgeous coastline are a true treasure on Tenerife. El Medano, a natural sand beach in the south east, is a favorite for water sports enthusiasts.
On the northern side, Playa El Bollullo offers a secluded beach perfect for quietly enjoying its natural beauty. Numerous other beaches dot the scenic coastline. You can find a great holiday home on Tenerife with a fantastic coastal view and beach access.
If you seek amazing sights, Tenerife has a lot to offer. El Duque Castle on the west coast is picturesque and located close to a shopping centre and beaches. The island’s former capital of San Cristóbal de La Laguna is a historic city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site (one of two, along with Mount Teide). If you are not sure where to start, many tours are offered focusing on notable sights — on land or by boat.
Tenerife features a lovely landscaped zoo, Loro Park, featuring gorillas, tigers, a penguin habitat, and dolphin shows. Zoo Tenerife Monkey Park is another option that is focused on endangered primates and allows visitors to participate in feeding.
Several museums are clustered around the northeast side of the coast, including the Museum of Nature and Man, Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Correillo La Palma maritime museum. There is something to please everyone in the family.
Every February, the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife occurs in the capital of Santa Cruz. Unlike many cultural events, this Carnival lasts for up to three weeks. The main event is the opening parade, which takes place on the Friday before Ash Wednesday. The streets fill with floats, decorated in over-the-top Carnival style. The parade is finished off with a giant fireworks display. This celebration — considered by many to be Europe’s top Carnival event — is not to be missed.
With its abundant natural beauty including beaches, forests, and Spain’s tallest mountain, those seeking an active holiday are sure to find many options. Excursions and tours abound all across the island, and many are water-centric given the island’s gorgeous coastlines. You and your family can hike, swim, or dive until your heart is content.
