Explore Stunning Massa-Carrara

The Massa-Carrara province lies along the northwestern coast of Italy in the Tuscan region.

The diverse landscape varies from the beautiful oceanfront to the Apennines and Apuan mountains with quaint villages and communities in between.

The spectacular landscape appeals to outdoor enthusiasts and photographers year-round. White marble caves, valleys and mountains are unique to the area and a sight to behold.

With the thousands of years of local history, the province has many castles that were constructed for protection along with being royal residences. Visitors who enjoy touring the grand structures should make a point of putting the Malaspina Castle of Fosdinovo at the top of the list. A castle existed on the property for more than 2,000 years.

The current fortress is one of the most well-maintained in Europe and dates back to medieval times. Cross the drawbridge, through the gateway and into the 13th-century courtyard. The castle is now a museum and tours span from the tops of the lookout towers to the depths of the prison.

As far as show caves go, the Grotta Turistica Antro del Corchia remains one of the finest and most impressive natural wonders in Europe. The cave features a three-dimensional lattice layout that extends 3,900 feet in height and has 33 miles of tunnels and pathways. The interior boasts many different types of formations made from dolomite and marble. Tours of the caverns take guests into the heart of the mountain to explore and marvel at the amazing environment.

When in the mood for hiking, consider trekking to one of the beautiful Tuscan waterfalls. The Malbacco is created by the Serra and Vezza Rivers. The area has many basins. However, the Malbacco stands at an impressive 100 feet in height and cascades into a crystal-clear basin below.

The hike to the location is easy and appropriate for all age groups. On weekends, the spot is popular for picnicking, swimming and diving. The Candalla Waterfall in the Camaiore Hills and the Casoli Waterfall at the base of Mount Matanna are other options.

Anyone who enjoys exploring historic churches should visit the Duomo di Carrara, which is also known as the Cathedral of Sant' Andrea. Construction of the structure began during the early 11th century. However, it was not completed until three centuries later.

The exquisite architecture is a combination of Gothic and Romanesque styles. The exterior and interior of the massive church were constructed using white marble. Sculptures grace the exterior and interior of the building. The exterior also features awe-inspiring stonework. The trussed ceiling also boasts a number of impressive frescoes.

Of all the locations that accommodate guests, none are more enjoyable than having an entire home to yourself. By choosing a holiday home in Massa-Carrara, you and your loved ones have plenty of space to be yourself, relax and enjoy the amenities.
